October 2016 Family Talk
Welcome to October! The weather has started its turn, and before we know it yards will need raking and bonfires will be burning on crisp fall evenings. And here at “First Family Central” our minds are turning toward all of the opportunities that await us!
One of the things that will be launched this month, and continue until Thanksgiving, is a Sunday night series called, “What Does the Bible Say About…?” Each Sunday evening at 6:00 we will examine a current topic and discover what the Bible has to say about it. We will begin October 2, answering the question, “What Does the Bible Say About Assisted Reproduction Techniques?” We will look at everything from artificial insemination to in vitro fertilization to surrogate parenting. The entire discussion is built around an article in this week’s Baptist Press (you can get a copy of the article on the Welcome Center counter on Sunday morning. If you’re wondering about the next week’s topic, so am I! We’ll have to wait and see what’s in the paper! (If you come across a topic of interest, feel free to text, email, or call me and let me know about it!)
Later in the month, on October 16th, we will go to Sterling Baptist Church for the Metro East Baptist Association Annual Meeting. The worship time will begin at 4:15, with Dr. Jeff Iorg, president of Gateway Baptist Seminary as the guest preacher. That will be followed by a time of fellowship, and end with a concert by Sons of the Father. Transportation will be available; just contact the church office. And then on the 22nd our Gospel Community Information/Training Meeting will be held (the one rescheduled from last month). Potential group hosts/leaders will have an opportunity for training in what Gospel Communities are, how they function, and how to lead them. So, if you are interested in hosting and/or leading a Gospel Community group, watch for your opportunity to sign up for this training event! No rescheduling this time!
And of course, our big event for the month is our Marriage Enrichment Conference on October 28-30. Reservations and payment for the conference, Friday dinner, lunch & special event are due October 9, but you can still register for sessions at the door when you arrive. Be watching in the weeks ahead for the session times!
Oh, and one last thing…a tradition that has been years in the making! Our annual Trunk or Treat will be held on the Courthouse Square on Monday, October 31. This is a great opportunity to minister to our community and share the gospel through literature distribution and just good gospel conversations! Watch for the signup board in a couple of weeks!
And remember…Thanksgathering is just around the corner!!
